The Heroon was a monument to the first colonists and a place for the original hero to come. It had a kenotaph, or empty tomb. They found amphorae here that had honey, oil, and wine, inside. This represented the foundation of the city and was offered to the gods. When the Romans took over, they buried this because they wanted to re-inaugurate the city as their own.
