Built in 510 BC, the Temple of Athena was a major part of this sanctuary. This was the most elevated point. The outside of the temple was Doric hexastyle peripteral with 6 by 13 columns. But the inside was much more unique and is what makes this temple interesting. There was no adyton or opistodomos and the parastas protrude. The cella had a small entrance with staircases on each side which were used to clean (there was no second story). The interior consisted of five graduated spaces with steps separating each space. This temple also had the first Ionic capitals/order. On the outside there was an Ionic frieze above and below the triglyphs/metape’s. We also see coffers. All of this suggests out of the norm architecture.
