Keramikos, where the cemetery was, is associated with the speech that Pericles gave in the Demosion Sema (public cemetery) where he praised Athens, saying that it justified the sacrifice made to create it. It was located right outside of the Themistoclean walls. Two roads converge here, and the cemetery includes the two busiest gates to the city (there were 13 in total), with three layers to the wall. The reason the cemetery was located outside of the city walls is because there was a law that said people could not be buried within the city limits.
We also learned about Greek warfare here, including the different phases of war (with Homeric warriors, Hoplites, and mercenaries), the equipment (catapults, shields, helmets, breast plate, and greaves), the formation that they used (called the Phalanx, which had 8 lines of soldiers), the laws of war, and the politics involved.
