We started the day at the first Olympic stadium. It is called the Panathenaic Stadium because the games were associated with the Panathenaic procession. Originally, athletic events took place in the Agora, but eventually they decided to take them out of the Agora. They found “twin hills” at the edge of the city, which made it the perfect place to build the 196-meter stadium. In 550 BC, Pisistrados assigned this space to be where the running events would be held, and then in 320 BC, Lycourdos made first stadium, which held 67,000 people. The curved shape is called a “sphedone” and one side is always left open so that it has a relationship with nature.
