Another one of the 200+ colonies of Megalia Hellas was Poseidonia, or Paestum, which is home to some of the best-preserved Greek temples. The oracle at Delphi recommended that the Greeks come here. This was a planned colony that was slightly elevated with two rivers running on either side, and a three part public space (see diagram). There was a huge wall that enclosed the entire sanctuary.
I’m glad we ended our trip here with some of the best-preserved temples. Seeing them after seeing all of the others in Greece made them seem even more impressive than they otherwise would have seemed.
